Taylor Swift was the big winner at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home nine prizes and making history as the first person to win Video of the Year four times. The 33-year-old singer-songwriter dominated the evening at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Wednesday night (12.09.23), winning awards such as Video of the Year, Song of the Year, and Artist of the Year for her tune ‘Anti-Hero’.
In addition to these prestigious awards, Taylor Swift also won Best Direction, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects for ‘Anti-Hero’. During her acceptance speech for Best Pop, she expressed her love for making pop music and videos, as well as her gratitude towards her fans for giving her the opportunity to explore different genres.
Taylor Swift made history by winning the Video of the Year award for the fourth time, previously winning for ‘All Too Well: The Short Film’, ‘Bad Blood’, and ‘You Need to Calm Down’. She also won Album of the Year for ‘Midnights’ and the Show of the Summer award, and praised her songwriting partner Jack Antonoff for their collaboration over the years.
Despite being nominated for 11 awards, Taylor Swift only lost in the Best Editing category and Song of the Summer category. Other notable winners of the night included Nicki Minaj for Best Hip-Hop, Ice Spice for Best New Artist, and various other artists in different genres.
