Sia has revealed that she spent three years in bed due to severe depression after her marriage ended. The ‘Chandelier’ singer opened up about how her personal turmoil affected her ability to write new music. She shared that the divorce threw her for a loop and left her in a very dark place.
Despite her struggles, Sia had been occasionally writing songs for the past six or seven years. However, her depression made it difficult for her to be productive during that time. She described how her depression was so severe that she spent three years in bed and couldn’t do much.
Eventually, Sia slowly started writing little bits and pieces here and there. Over time, she accumulated enough material for her upcoming album ‘Reasonable Woman’, which is set to be released next spring. This album will be a follow-up to her 2016 record ‘This Is Acting’.
Sia admitted that she relies on her management to determine when they have enough good songs for an album. She trusts their judgment and believes they can tell when they have enough quality tracks. Her management lets her know when they have 11 or 12 or 13 good songs.
In addition, Sia expressed her desire to potentially ditch her trademark blonde wig in order to connect with her audience on a more personal level. She wants to be present during her performances and have fun interacting with the crowd like she did in the early days of her career. Sia looks back fondly on those shows and hopes to recreate that experience in the future.
