Reese Witherspoon has developed a resilience towards rejection throughout her career in Hollywood. Despite facing numerous setbacks in her early days, the Oscar-winning actress has adopted a more philosophical attitude towards rejection.
During the INBOUND 2023 conference, the 47-year-old actress shared, “I started at a young age, and rejection was a constant presence in my life. However, I learned long ago that I shouldn’t concern myself with other people’s opinions of me.”
Reese further expressed, “I genuinely don’t care about what others think. I will continue to focus on my work, date whomever I choose, and spend time with friends, even if they are disliked by others. When you let go of the burden of people’s opinions, you experience true freedom.”
In addition, Reese Witherspoon has discovered the importance of surrounding herself with supportive and resilient individuals. She emphasized, “Anyone above the age of 40 knows that if you aren’t enhancing my life, then it’s time to remove yourself from it.”
Prior to her involvement in the successful HBO series ‘Big Little Lies,’ Reese admitted her frustrations with Hollywood studios. However, the project proved to be a turning point in her career. Collaborating alongside Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, and Zoe Kravitz, Reese played a significant role in initiating the series.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Reese Witherspoon shared her experience, stating, “Despite being a consistent source of profits for studios for many years, they never took me seriously as a filmmaker. They failed to recognize the knowledge and expertise gained from my extensive 25-year experience.”
Reese further emphasized the discrepancies in the industry, saying, “If you look at the opportunities given to male filmmakers emerging from Sundance, it’s frustrating. They are instantly recognized for their potential, while I had to struggle for recognition.”
