Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, expressed her apologies for being late to the party upon arriving in Germany for the Invictus Games on Tuesday (12.09.23). She joined her husband Prince Harry at a Family + Friends party in Dusseldorf, celebrating the competition that Prince Harry founded in 2014 for sick and wounded service personnel and veterans. Meghan explained that she couldn’t attend the beginning of the tournament due to her responsibilities as a parent to her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
She apologized, saying, “I’m so sorry that I was a little late for the party. Just like so many of you, we know this is about family and friends and the community that Invictus has created, that Fisher House has created, and so I had to just spend a little bit more time getting our little ones settled home. Getting milkshakes, doing school drop off and then I just landed a couple of hours ago. I am thrilled that the first event that I can do with Invictus is here with all of you.”
Meghan proceeded to express her gratitude towards the Fisher House Foundation, which provides military and veteran families with a comfortable space while their loved ones are in the hospital. She shared her pride in being involved with the Games and praised the value of rehabilitation as not only an individual experience but also a family one. Meghan also acknowledged the support from the Canadian team and mentioned receiving a bracelet with the initials of someone who couldn’t attend. She assured everyone that there are many people back home rooting for the competitors in spirit.
In closing, Meghan mentioned her children again, stating her excitement to bring them along in the future, so they can experience the greatness of the Invictus Games. She thanked everyone and wished them the best time at the event.
