Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is thrilled and deeply touched by her new Nigerian nickname, Amira Ngozi Lolo. She received this nickname from the Nigerian team during her visit to Dusseldorf, Germany for the Invictus Games. The nickname Amira represents a warrior princess from a legend, while Ngozi means “blessed” and Lolo translates to “royal wife”. The couple was presented with a plaque from Nigeria’s chief of defence.
This is the first time Nigeria has competed in the Invictus Games, and Meghan and Prince Harry had the opportunity to meet with members of the Nigerian team after a wheelchair basketball fixture. Derek Cobbinah, who helped coordinate Nigeria’s entry, shared that Meghan was deeply touched by her nickname and expressed her desire to visit Nigeria with her family.
The bond between the duke, duchess, and the Nigerian team was strong, with the team welcoming Meghan into their Nigerian family. They led a chant of “Gbosas,” meaning “kudos,” to celebrate the couple. Cobbinah mentioned that Meghan is always welcome to visit Nigeria and other African countries.
Meghan, who arrived late to the games due to her responsibilities as a mother, expressed her gratitude and excitement for being a part of the Invictus Games and the community it has created. She apologized for her late arrival and mentioned that she had to attend to her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Despite being late, Meghan was thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in the event with the Invictus community.
Overall, Meghan’s experience in Germany has been positive, and she looks forward to future visits to Nigeria and other African countries.
