Donald Glover’s planned ‘Lando’ TV series is now being developed as a movie. The project was initially announced as a spin-off show in December 2020, but Stephen Glover, Donald’s brother and co-developer, revealed that it is now being developed for the big screen. However, due to an ongoing writers’ strike, the project is currently on hold.
In an interview on the ‘Pablo Torre Finds Out’ podcast, Stephen Glover stated, “It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.” Lucasfilm later confirmed to Variety that the movie adaptation is indeed in progress.
Donald Glover has made it clear in the past that he wouldn’t pursue a spin-off project if the story didn’t meet his standards. He expressed this sentiment in an interview with GQ magazine, saying, “I’m not interested in doing anything that is going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck… Lando is definitely somebody I’d like to hang out with. We’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say.”
Billy Dee Williams, who famously portrayed Lando Calrissian in the original Star Wars trilogy, played the character for the fourth time in 2019’s ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’. Donald Glover had the opportunity to meet with Williams before filming ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and discussed his vision for the character. Glover shared, “He just let me ramble on and on, and then finally I was like, ‘So, what do you think?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, I don’t know about all that. Just be charming.’”
