Kevin Bacon expressed his dismay and feeling of being mocked by the ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ game. The 65-year-old actor felt that the game was based on making fun of him. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that his extensive filmography, featuring various genres and large ensemble casts, allowed for easy connections to other Hollywood actors.
Bacon shared his thoughts during an interview on the ‘On With Mario Lopez’ podcast, stating, “I always think to myself, it’s only because I’ve been in a whole lot of movies that a whole lot of people have been in, a lot of very big casts!” Despite his initial horror, he saw the game as a form of teasing, saying, “I just thought, ‘Oh come on, they’re just making fun of me, let’s face it!'”
After making his debut in ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’ in 1978, his breakthrough role came in ‘Footloose’ in 1984. Subsequent appearances in films such as ‘A Few Good Men’, ‘Friday the 13th’, ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’, and ‘Patriots Day’ further established his career.
Bacon discovered the game’s existence in the mid-1990s when people started mentioning it to him. Confused at first, he heard comments like, “‘My cousin invented a game about you,” or “I’m so hungover, I was playing your game last night’.” Not understanding the references, Bacon initially thought they were mistaken. He later learned that college students at Albright College in Pennsylvania had conceived the concept while watching one of his movies.
Despite his belief that the game would fade away, it remains popular to this day. In fact, Bacon used its influence as inspiration for the name of his new podcast, ‘Six Degrees With Kevin Bacon’. Reflecting on the game’s persistence, he expressed surprise, saying, “I honestly thought it was gonna go away, and it just didn’t go away!”
