Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, recently suffered a hand injury in a trampoline accident. During her visit to HMP High Down in Surrey, she had two of her fingers strapped together. Catherine, who is a patron of The Forward Trust, was at the prison to explore ways of improving the visitor experience for families, particularly children.
According to HELLO! magazine, she admitted during the visit that the mishap was her own fault, saying, “I was jumping around on the trampoline. I did put [the strapping] on just to keep it safe.” Catherine later had her hands checked by drug detection dog Penny, and she was impressed by how the black Labrador remained calm and controlled when detecting drugs.
During her time at the prison, Kate Middleton learned about the addiction programs offered to the prisoners. She spoke to a group of men whose addictions ultimately led them to prison, and one of them expressed that he would have liked help earlier if he had known he needed it. Catherine also visited The Clink, an on-site restaurant run by prisoners under The Clink Charity, where inmates study cooking, cleaning, and food service and receive mentorship upon release.
Richard Stephenson, who previously battled addiction and received help from The Forward Trust, commended the princess for taking an interest in people from different backgrounds and believing in their ability to change. He emphasized the importance of meeting someone who may potentially be a future queen. Catherine had previously mentioned that she incorporates playing on the trampoline with her children as part of her fitness routine, alongside running around after them.
