Priyanka Chopra is an eminent figure in Indian cinema who has successfully transitioned to Hollywood. In a recent podcast interview with Dax Shepard, the global icon candidly shared the reason behind her decision to work in the US.
Reflecting on her move to Hollywood, Priyanka revealed, “I felt cornered in the Bollywood industry. I faced rejection and conflicts, and I wasn’t skilled at playing the political game. I simply grew tired of the politics and decided to take a break.” The actress explained that she was exploring options outside Bollywood when she received the opportunity to work in Hollywood, which she immediately seized.
Priyanka Chopra further explained, “Venturing into music allowed me to enter a new realm, without longing for roles I didn’t desire but would require schmoozing in certain circles. It would demand groveling, but considering the time I had already invested in my career, I didn’t feel the need to stoop to that level.”
This interview stirred a lot of conversation both online and offline, with many fans interpreting it as an indirect dig at filmmaker Karan Johar. However, Karan Johar did not respond to Priyanka’s comments at the time.
Recently, at the Toronto International Film Festival 2023, where he attended the premiere of the film Kill, which he co-produced, Karan Johar openly spoke about Priyanka Chopra’s success and her transition from Bollywood.
In an interview with ET Canada, Karan expressed, “Seeing Priyanka Chopra thrive and achieve such remarkable success on her own terms…her impressive journey and her contributions to every platform she graces…it’s absolutely fantastic.”
For those unaware, Priyanka Chopra previously worked in the film Dostana, which was produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in 2008.
Meanwhile, after a seven-year break, Karan Johar recently returned to the director’s chair with the film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The film received tremendous success.
