It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Johnny Depp has captured the world’s attention and interest with everything he does. Despite a tumultuous personal life in recent years, he is slowly making a comeback in Hollywood. However, this is not without its fair share of controversies. While his personal life has been a rollercoaster, his professional career seems to be on the upswing. He is making a French on-screen comeback with Jeanne du Barry and there are discussions about his return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. And now, Beetlejuice is also in the mix.
For those who may not be aware, Johnny Depp went through a rough patch when he fought a libel trial against a British tabloid, which also involved his former wife, Amber Heard. After losing the trial, Hollywood started distancing itself from the superstar and he soon lost his place in franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts.
However, throughout all of this, there has always been Tim Burton. The iconic filmmaker and Johnny Depp share a strong bond that goes beyond the actor-director relationship. It was announced a few months ago that the two would be reuniting after a gap of almost 7 years for Beetlejuice 2. While recent speculation suggests that this is confirmed, there is also an upsetting update.
According to a viral report from Giant Freakin Robot, Johnny Depp will be reuniting with his favorite director, Tim Burton, after their last collaboration in 2016 for “Alice Through The Looking Glass.” They will both be working together in the sequel to Beetlejuice, which already stars Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, and Winona Ryder. However, there is a disappointing twist to this news. Depp will only have a cameo role in the movie, rather than a full-fledged part.
In the past, while discussing the possibility of working with Johnny Depp again, Tim Burton stated, “If the right thing was around, sure… I think with anybody, I never work with anybody, even with my friends, it’s not like a party. I always like to try it with him or anybody to kind of go; what is the part? What is the thing? And then, is it the right thing, is it the right character? I take things on those bases and no others.”
