Jimmy Fallon is currently on a break from his show following accusations from his staff about a toxic work environment and its effect on their mental health. Recently, a tweet resurfaced highlighting how Amy Poehler stood up to Fallon after he criticized one of her jokes, as mentioned in Tina Fey’s memoir “Bossypants”.
For those who are not aware, Fallon has apologized for his behavior after some of his staff members labeled him as toxic and unpredictable. In his apology, he expressed his embarrassment and regret over the situation. It was also revealed that he had a secret spot in a club where he used to hang out with his writers.
Referring back to the incident with Amy Poehler, Tina Fey’s memoir described how Fallon tried to suppress Poehler after she made a vulgar joke in front of the Saturday Night Live (SNL) staff. This occurred during her SNL debut following the 9/11 attacks. Fey wrote, “Amy was in the middle of some such nonsense with Seth Meyers across the table, and she did something vulgar as a joke. I can’t remember the exact details, except that it was dirty, loud, and ‘unladylike’.” In her memoir, Fey continued, “Jimmy Fallon turned to her and in a pretend squeamish voice said, ‘Stop that! It’s not cute! I don’t like it’.”
The tense moment between Fallon and Poehler did not end there. According to Fey’s memoir, Poehler immediately stopped what she was doing, her eyes went dark for a moment, and she confronted Fallon, saying, “I don’t f**king care if you like it.” This left Fallon astonished, as the memoir stated, “Amy went right back to enjoying her ridiculous bit. With that exchange, a cosmic shift occurred.”
In her memoir, Tina Fey clarified, “Amy and Jimmy are very good friends, and there was never any real animosity between them.” It was evident that Amy was determined to be her true self and didn’t care about others’ opinions.
