Jake Gyllenhaal expressed his admiration for his brother-in-law Peter Sarsgaard, who was awarded Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. The veteran actor won the accolade for his performance in ‘Memory’, a film that explores the protagonist’s struggle with dementia after reconnecting with his high school friends. Jake, who refers to his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal’s husband as “incredibly talented,” showered him with praise on Instagram.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Jake wrote, “Congratulations to my incredible (and incredibly talented) brother-in-law @gaardsars for winning Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival! Couldn’t be happier for this extraordinary human. Love you brother.” Jake’s joy for his brother-in-law’s accomplishment shines through his words.
During his acceptance speech, Peter Sarsgaard took the opportunity to address the issue of AI machines and the strike that writers and actors in Hollywood have embarked upon. He expressed concern about the potential consequences of this dispute, stating that if the battle is lost, it could have a negative impact on multiple industries, including healthcare and warfare. He urged the “eight billionaires,” who own the AI machines, to consider the humanity of their actions and the future they are paving for their own children.
Peter Sarsgaard also spoke about his personal connection to the role and paid tribute to his late uncle, fondly known as ‘Bubba’. He revealed that his uncle had suffered from dementia during the COVID-19 pandemic and passed away. Holding back tears, Peter dedicated the award to his memory and mentioned that his uncle had been a beekeeper, making the recognition all the more poignant.
