Ellen DeGeneres is making a comeback to television with a new documentary special after her talk show ended last year. The 65-year-old star will be hosting a two-hour documentary called ‘Saving The Gorillas: Ellen’s Next Adventure’ on the Discovery Channel. This comes after ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ went off air in May 2022 due to allegations of mistreatment and misconduct behind the scenes.
In the documentary, Ellen will be shedding light on the work of primatologist Dian Fossey and her love for animals. The programme will showcase the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, which Ellen helped build in Rwanda. The campus has been instrumental in gorilla conservation and biodiversity, while also welcoming visitors and local schoolchildren.
The documentary will air on September 23 on the Discovery Channel and again on September 24 for World Gorilla Day on Animal Planet. Craig H. Shepherd, executive vice president at Zero Point Zero Production, expressed excitement about partnering with Ellen and her team to bring the gorilla conservation journey to life on screen.
Past accusations of Ellen being “mean” led to an internal investigation into her talk show. The presenter issued a statement addressing the reports and acknowledged that she’s not perfect. She emphasized that she was working on her behavior and that she was a complex person who experiences a range of emotions. In May 2022, Ellen announced the end of her show after 19 seasons, trusting her instincts that it was the right time to move on.
