‘Batgirl’ directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah express their disappointment over the movie’s cancellation, considering it to be the biggest letdown of their careers. They were at the helm of the unreleased DC superhero film, which was scrapped by the studio due to a change in filmmaking approach. El Arbi expresses his regret that audiences were unable to see Michael Keaton reprise his role as Batman in their version. He considers it a privilege and an honor to have had the opportunity to work with Keaton. However, the situation is tinged with mixed emotions.
Fallah reminisces about the joy he experienced while working with Keaton on set, feeling like a child rather than a director. It was a surreal experience for him. El Arbi, on the other hand, believes that ‘Batgirl’ should have been given a chance to be shown in theaters. The audience, in their opinion, is the ultimate judge of a film’s quality and whether it should be seen or not. Unfortunately, they were denied that opportunity.
The directors confess that watching ‘The Flash’ after the cancellation of ‘Batgirl’ was difficult for them. They genuinely appreciate director Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara, who produced the movie. However, watching it made them feel that they could have been a part of it. In spite of this, they remain open to working with Warner Bros. again in the future. As fans of DC, they would never decline such an opportunity, on the condition that the movie actually sees the light of day.
