There is currently a lot of talk surrounding Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, also known as Aquaman 2. These are not just rumors or speculations, but confirmed details straight from the director, James Wan. After a noticeably long absence from promoting the movie, Wan has finally started discussing his controversial film after the release of the trailer teaser. He has addressed topics such as Amber Heard’s involvement, the future of the franchise in the new DCU, and more.
For those unaware, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is the direct sequel to Aquaman, which holds the distinction of being the highest-earning solo movie in the history of DC films, with a collection of over $1 billion. It features Jason Momoa and Amber Heard in key roles and has been surrounded by controversy throughout its production and post-production for various reasons.
The lack of promotion for Aquaman 2, despite its release being just a couple of months away, has been making fans anxious. Now, with the release of the trailer teaser, James Wan has come forward to address these concerns, demonstrating bravery by discussing some of the most burning issues. Read on to find out more.
One of the biggest questions lately has been whether Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will be the last film in the Aquaman series or if there will be an Aquaman 3. Reports of James Gunn casting Jason Momoa as Lobo and potentially ending his run as Arthur Curry added fuel to these speculations. However, the director of The Lost Kingdom reassured fans that the new leadership does not affect his franchise, meaning that if there is a third film, it will go on unaffected.
According to a statement by James Wan shared by We Got This Covered, he said, “The beauty of this movie, this Aquaman world, is that, very early on, we always said that we are our own separate universe. My goal was always: If we could spin off a Seven Kingdoms universe, that would be my ideal dream. So, what we do, ultimately, doesn’t get affected by all that stuff, all that noise.”
There have been reports suggesting that James Gunn and Peter Safran have had input in shaping Aquaman 2 to fit their new version of the DCU. James Wan addressed these reports and clarified that ultimately, the sequel is his own film. He said, “I’ve known James [Gunn] since way back, right? We’re horror guys, and so I’m definitely open to ideas. But, at the end of the day, this is my movie.”
He also spoke about shooting a cameo that includes Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton. To clear up any confusion, he stated, “The tricky thing early on was not knowing whether Aquaman would come out first or come out after [The Flash]. So, we just had to be prepared.”
Aquaman 2 is scheduled for release on December 20, 2023. Stay tuned to Celebtrends for more updates.
