Dame Joan Collins is still deeply affected by the death of her younger sister Jackie, who passed away from cancer at the age of 77 in September 2015. The iconic ‘Dynasty’ actress, now 90 years old, revealed that she misses their long conversations and intends to honour her sister on the anniversary of her passing by sticking close to her family.
In an interview with Woman’s Weekly, Dame Joan confessed, “I miss our long, gossipy phone calls and letters. The loss of a younger sister is not something you ever completely recover from, but rather something you learn to live with. On the anniversary of her death, I will pay tribute to her in the same way I remember her every day – by cherishing her memory and staying connected to her daughters and grandchildren.”
Dame Joan Collins will soon be releasing her autobiography, ‘Behind the Shoulder Pads.’ In this book, she plans to share never-before-told stories from her time in the spotlight. Opening up about her motivation for the memoir, she explained, “I hope that by sharing the lessons I’ve learned throughout my life, I can inspire them to become self-reliant and hardworking individuals. Judging from their accomplishments, it seems like they’ve already grasped those values. While I’ve experienced countless incredible adventures in Hollywood and beyond, some tales have remained exclusive to my close circle of friends. I believe there should always be an air of intrigue, which is why I’ve kept those stories hidden behind my iconic shoulder pads. But not anymore!”
Alongside the release of her autobiography, Dame Joan will embark on a live stage tour across the UK to promote her book. Despite her age, she remains committed to personal growth and seizing each day as an opportunity to accomplish something meaningful.
Summing up her perspective on life, Dame Joan Collins shared a quote from her close friend Leslie Bricusse, saying, “Every day presents a chance to learn, achieve, and enjoy something!”
