Catherine, Princess of Wales, had the unique experience of participating in a parents’ race barefoot on school sports day. She and her husband, Prince William, found themselves becoming quite competitive during the event.
When asked if she would take part in sports day, Princess Catherine revealed, “We have done!” She made this comment during an appearance on ‘The Good, The Bad and The Rugby’ podcast.
Discussing the level of competition in parents’ races, Princess Catherine mentioned that many schools have actually banned them due to excessive competitiveness. She shared, “We were told categorically there was no parents’ race. But then they called a last-minute parents’ race, and both of us, being competitive, felt the need to participate. So I ended up running barefoot.”
Prince William also confessed to his competitive nature when it came to these races. As the President of England’s Football Association, he admitted, “I came second. I started off running, joined in, looked around, and realized I was quite far ahead. There was an Italian dad in front of me, and I thought I had to catch him.”
Princess Catherine added to the story, saying, “And I ran in bare feet in the same race.” Her love for sports extends beyond the parents’ races, as she is a big fan of swimming. In particular, she enjoys swimming in cold water. “I genuinely love all sports,” she shared. “Personally, I love swimming wherever I can. The colder the water, the better. Even in the dark and rain, I will seek out cold water because I love it.”
