Chuck Palahniuk has expressed his dislike for the ending of the film adaptation of his novel, ‘Fight Club’. He explained that he wasn’t a fan of the ticking bomb and counting down clock near the end, which was included by screenwriter Jim Uhls as a trope.
In a humorous twist, Chuck joked that the Chinese censorship of the film actually brought it closer to the book’s ending. Instead of the death and bombs portrayed in the original film, the Chinese version released in 2022 replaced them with a huge title card. This version more closely aligned with the ending of the book and involved Tyler Durden’s character being sent to a psychiatric hospital.
Chuck remarked that the Chinese version ultimately brought the movie back to the book’s ending, a change from director David Fincher’s more visually spectacular ending in the original film.
