Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently participated in a comprehensive podcast interview, where he freely discussed various topics. Known for his outspoken nature, Kashyap often finds himself embroiled in controversies due to his statements. Today, he is making headlines for sharing intriguing facts and unknown details about his highly acclaimed Gangs Of Wasseypur franchise.
Although both films cater to different audiences, they remain among Kashyap’s most celebrated works. The movies feature an ensemble cast including Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi, and more.
During the recent interview, Kashyap revealed that his initial cut of Gangs Of Wasseypur was 7.5 hours long, which later got divided into two parts by Vikramaditya Motwane. Initially, he had planned for the franchise to consist of three installments. Speaking on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast Cyrus Says, Kashyap said, “I just kept writing. I thought it would be three films. But somehow Vikram(aditya) Motwane came in, saved it, and it ended up as two films. It could have been three films because my first cut was seven and a half hours long.”
Regarding the iconic dialogue ‘Tumse Naa Ho Paayega’, Kashyap shared that it was not his creation, but an improvisation by Tigmanshu Dhulia. He praised Dhulia’s natural talent and stated, “He was just so good and natural that we were rolling with laughter. It was done right there and then.” Kashyap continued, “I just say what not to do, I don’t tell them what to do. I let them go. The good scenes have come out of that only. Scripts should be just a map. That’s why I don’t share my scripts with actors.”
He further explained why he doesn’t give scripts to actors, saying, “I do not give my script to actors because they memorize it so much. They also become very fixated. The dialogues and everything, they say it the same way. If the script stays with them for too long, they have rehearsed it so many times in front of the mirror, you just cannot alter them. I actually give them the wrong cues and the wrong things. I give three different instructions to three different actors. So, what comes out is very organic. You can’t write it,” added the filmmaker.
