Ricky Kej, Indian Winner in Grammy Awards 2023
Ricky Kej, Bengaluru based Indian music composer won the Grammy Award 2023 in the Best Immersive Audio Album category.
This was Ricky Kej’s third Grammy Award win. This year 2023 Ricky Kej got the Grammy for the album ‘Divine Tides’ which he collaborated with the rock-legend Stewart Copeland.
The album contains 9 songs and 8 music videos. The album is filmed across the world in exquisite locations including Indian Himalayas. The album contains its divine tribute to the Natural World around us and it tries to ensemble the beauty of nature with in itself.
This song was Kej’s collaborative project with Copeland and they bagged another Grammy for Best New Age Album in 2022. The composer also won for his 2015 album, ‘Winds of Samsara.’
Ricky Kej is also the youngest persons from India to bag the Grammy Awards, and he is also only the 4th Indian to bag any Grammy Award.
Indian connections at Red Carpet for Grammy Awards 2023
Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, better known for her onstage name Cardi B appeared in Grammy Award 2023 in a stunning custom-made gown crafted by Indian fashion designer Gaurav Gupta. Cardi B, appeared at the pre-awards event in a royal blue cutout sculptural 3D dress with a headgear over one eye and a trail.
Famous British-Indian sitar player and the daughter of Indian great sitar player Pandit Ravi Shankar Anoushka Shankar who’s had 7 Grammy Awards nominations till date and also performed at this year’s Grammys stunned in a nude shimmery dress with floral applique work by Indian designer Rahul Mishra.
Indian-American author and composer Kabir Sehgal also appeared in this year Grammy Awards 2023 in a tuxedo with a quirky bow tie.
Singer and founder of Grammy-nominated Berklee Indian Ensemble, Annette Philip stunned in a dual-toned kanjivaram silk sari. She finished off the look with a red bindi and a wired gold choker.
An American-born singer who’s converted to Sikhism and is married to an Indian, Khalsa won a Grammy along with her teacher Harijiwan Khalsa (from White Sun II), for the best new age, ambient, or chant album for ‘Mystic Mirror’ at the 65th annual Grammy Awards. She looked elegant in her traditional Sikh satin robe and bejewelled headgear.
Indian Nominations in Grammy Award, 2023
This year Rickey Kej for the album divine Tides was nominated under the Best Immersive Audio Album category. Rickey Kej album is his collaboration with rock legend Stewart Copeland.
This year British-Indian famous Sitar player Anoushka Shankar had two Grammy nominations. One for The Best Global Music Performance category for the song ‘Udhero Na’. The second nomination for her was in The Best Global Music Album category for ‘Between Us’. Anoushka Shankar in all had received seven Grammy Award nominations so far.
Berklee Indian Ensemble is a musical group founded by Annette Philip was nominated in the category for the Best Global Music Album for 2022 album ‘Shuruaat’ this year in the Grammy Award. Berklee Indian Ensemble was nominated for the same category in which Anoushka Shankar’s song ‘Udhero Na’ was nominated. It is to be noted that Annette Philip was the first Indian Musician to join the faculty of the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Nora Jones the sister of Anoushka Shankar was nominated in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category for ‘I Dream of Christmas (Extended)’.
