Exciting news for fans of Aubrey Plaza as she takes on a new challenge this fall by making her stage debut in the Off-Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley’s ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea’. Plaza will be sharing the stage with Christopher Abbott in the 10-week run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, set to begin on October 30, with the opening night scheduled for November 13.
Produced by Sam Rockwell and Mark Berger, the play will be directed by Jeff Ward, known for his role in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, in his own stage debut. The play centers around two strangers, Danny and Roberta, who meet in a dive bar in the Bronx, sparking the possibility of a romance.
Aubrey Plaza expressed her excitement, stating, “My life and career have been profoundly impacted by Off-Broadway theater… I really do believe it’s the beating heart of this city. I couldn’t be prouder to be downtown at the Lucille Lortel with this vital play,” as she joins the talented cast of this classic production.
Additionally, this will be the second Shanley play of the 2023-2024 season, with ‘Doubt’ starring Tyne Daly and Liev Schreiber set to run on Broadway starting in February 2024.
