Jamie Lynn Spears, 32, knows that the ups and downs with her sister, Britney Spears, have far-reaching effects beyond just the two of them. In an emotional interview with Variety published on Wednesday, July 19, Jamie Lynn revealed that her teenage daughter, Maddie, has faced backlash at school due to the family drama.
As tears welled up in her eyes, Jamie Lynn expressed her sadness over her daughter’s experiences, emphasizing that she won’t allow her children, especially her oldest daughter who was deeply affected by it all, to feel that way in their lives.
To support Maddie, the Zoey 102 star has advised her 14-year-old to tune out any negative stories she might hear about Britney at school. Instead, she reminds her daughter to take pride in their family’s accomplishments and the strong female example Britney represents.
Jamie Lynn has relied on her two kids, Maddie and Ivey (5), whom she shares with her ex Casey Aldridge and husband Jamie Watson, respectively, during her public hardships with Britney. By fostering a sense of pride and strength, she strives to shield her family from the media scrutiny they face.
“My strength is out of the love for my children and wanting to make sure that I don’t give way to anything other than what I know to be authentic and true,” Jamie Lynn explained. “It was hard, but at the end of the day, look where I am now.”
Jamie Lynn has been in a rollercoaster relationship with her sister for years. The tension between the siblings seemed to escalate further after Britney’s conservatorship ended in November 2021. For 13 years, beginning in 2008, Britney and Jamie Lynn’s father, Jamie Spears, controlled her estate.
During her fight to break free from the legal contract, Britney criticized not only her father, aged 71, but also her mom, Lynne Spears, and Jamie Lynn, alleging that they didn’t support her amid the drama.
In January 2022, Jamie Lynn’s memoir, “Things I Should Have Said,” worsened the feud between the sisters. Britney slammed her sister, accusing her of sharing false details from her personal life in the book.
Britney vented her frustration via social media, writing, “I wish the almighty, Lord would come down and show this whole world that you’re lying and making money off of me!!!! You are scum, Jamie Lynn.”
Jamie Lynn was absent from Britney’s wedding to Sam Asghari five months later. However, the following year, Britney revealed that she and her younger sibling had privately reconnected.
“It was nice to visit my sister on set last week!!! I’ve missed you guys so much!!!” Britney shared on Instagram in June. “Loyal girls stay home, but it’s so nice to visit family 😌!!!”
Jamie Lynn, in an interview with Variety this month, expressed “nothing but absolute love for every single one of [her] family members.” Although she didn’t directly address the recent reunion with Britney, she emphasized that she was done fueling their years-long feud.
“If I learned anything from last year, being so open and feeling like I had to defend myself at times, I don’t feel like there’s anything else that I need to say,” Jamie Lynn stated. “I just have to leave it where it is because those conversations are meant to be personal. All I can focus on now is my girls, my husband, and the work that I’m doing.”
