The industry is abuzz with the desire to be recognized as the best. Michael Jackson, the unmatched King of Pop, held the title and his legacy remains unchallenged. Recently, however, a conversation was sparked when someone casually referred to Harry Styles as the new King of Pop. MJ’s nephew, Taj Jackson, had a strong reaction, and now his son Prince is speaking out.
Over a month ago, a magazine featured Harry Styles on their cover, which was interesting in itself. But it was the tagline they chose that raised eyebrows: “The New King of Pop.” This sparked a discussion, considering the years of hard work and dedication Michael Jackson put in to earn that title.
Things took a viral turn when Taj Jackson expressed his displeasure on Twitter. He wasn’t the only one who was hurt by the magazine casually giving Harry Styles his father’s title. Prince, Michael’s son, also voiced his objections.
Now, during an episode of Mike Tyson’s podcast Hotboxin, Prince shared his thoughts on Harry Styles being called the new King of Pop. He made it clear that no current star can compare to his father as an artist. If anyone comes close to embodying his father’s iconic appeal, it would be Beyonce.
Meanwhile, back in August, Taj Jackson responded to the magazine cover, stating, “There is no new King of Pop. You don’t own the title, Rolling Stone, and you didn’t earn it. My uncle did. The title has been retired. No disrespect to Harry Styles, he’s incredibly talented. Give him his own unique title.”
